A Whimsical Grinch-Themed Cake Smash


Some sessions are pure joy from start to finish. This Grinch-themed cake smash was one of them. The idea began as a nod to her family’s love for Christmas and her spirited little personality. I wanted the set to feel festive and fun but still polished enough to reflect my studio’s signature style. The result was a peppermint-sweet celebration filled with laughter, frosting, and the kind of expressions every parent hopes to remember forever.


When she arrived, we dressed this cutie in an adorable Cindy Lou Who. Her soft curls framed her face perfectly as she snuggled her plush Grinch friend during her “clean snaps”—the simple portraits we capture before the cake fun begins. These moments are always some of my favorites because they show the innocence and curiosity that define this age.


Then it was time to get her Grinch on.



Her custom set featured peppermint stripes, a snowy white floor, and festive red and green accents that tied everything together. The centerpiece was a buttercream cake topped with sugar swirls and a hint of sparkle. There wasn't a hesitation for long; she dove right in with a grin that said she was having the time of her life.

She smashed, she squished, she tasted, and she laughed. Every moment was pure holiday cheer. By the end, her tiny hands were covered in frosting and her smile said everything—Christmas had officially come early.


What I love most about sessions like this is how they celebrate not just a milestone, but a family’s joy in watching their little one grow. Every set I design is custom, made with care, and created to match each baby’s unique spirit. Aoife’s Grinch smash was the perfect blend of playful and heartfelt—exactly what the holidays are all about.

When should I book a cake smash session? The best time to schedule is around 10 to 11 months so your photos are ready in time for the big celebration.

Can I choose a holiday or themed design? Yes. Every cake smash set is completely custom. Whether you dream of a festive holiday design, a princess theme, or something uniquely personal, I’ll create a look that feels refined and full of heart.

Do you provide the cake and props? Yes, depending on the session you choose, everything from the set to the cake and outfits is coordinated for you. Families can even take home custom décor as keepsakes after the session.

Can we add family photos? Absolutely. We begin with simple family or milestone portraits before the cake smash. These “clean snaps” often become some of the most cherished images.
