Newborn photography often comes with more questions than any other type of session.
Below are the most common newborn photography questions families ask, answered clearly and directly so you know exactly what to expect before booking.
When Should I Book Newborn Photos?
Newborn photos are best booked between 20 and 32 weeks of pregnancy.
Booking during this window allows space to plan around your due date and ensures flexibility once your baby arrives. Rather than scheduling a fixed date, newborn sessions are reserved around your expected delivery and finalized after birth.
This approach allows the experience to feel intentional rather than rushed.

What Is the Best Age for Newborn Photos?
Most newborn sessions take place when babies are between 7 and 21 days old.
During this stage, babies tend to be sleepier and more naturally settled, which allows for a slower, more relaxed flow. That said, older newborns are always welcome. Sessions with older babies simply look a little different, often featuring more alert expressions and interaction.
There is no single “right” look. The goal is to document your baby as they are.
How Long Does a Newborn Photography Session Last?
Newborn sessions typically last between 1.5 and 3 hours.
This timeframe allows for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and breaks as needed. Sessions are baby-led, with no pressure to move quickly or follow a rigid timeline.
Time is built in so the experience feels supportive and unhurried.
Where Do Newborn Sessions Take Place?

All newborn sessions take place in my private studio in Manhasset on Long Island’s North Shore. A studio setting allows for consistent light, controlled temperature, and access to everything needed for your baby’s comfort and safety throughout the session.
Are Parents and Siblings Included?
Yes, depending on the collection you choose.
Some packages focus on baby-only portraits, while others include images with parents and siblings as well. This flexibility allows families to choose the type of story they want to tell without feeling locked into one approach.
What Does a Newborn Photography Session Include?
Every newborn session includes:
Professional retouching of final images
A baby-led, safety-first approach
Gentle posing guidance
Access to studio props and styling
An online gallery where images are selected
The number of final images typically ranges from 5 to 60, depending on the collection selected. Images are chosen from your gallery after the session.

What Do You Provide for My Baby?
All newborn sessions include access to:
Wraps and outfits
Headbands and bonnets
Simple, timeless props
Everything is selected with comfort, safety, and cohesion in mind so parents do not need to bring anything unless they want to.
What Should Parents Wear for Newborn Photos?
Parents receive clear styling guidance before the session.
In addition, mothers have access to a client closet with dozens and dozens of dresses designed to photograph beautifully during the postpartum stage. Styling is handled thoughtfully so parents feel confident without overthinking what to wear.
How Much Do Newborn Photos Cost on Long Island?
Newborn collections begin at $350.
Bundled options are available, including newborn and milestone sessions and the First Year Collective. These options offer significant savings compared to booking sessions individually and allow families to plan intentionally across the first year.
Heirloom albums and printed artwork are always available and discussed as part of the overall experience.
Is Baby Safety a Priority?
Absolutely.
Sessions are:
Baby-led
Safety-first
Designed with breaks for feeding and soothing
I am infant CPR certified, and all posing is done with your baby’s comfort and safety as the highest priority. Babies are never rushed or forced into positions.
What Happens After the Session?

After your session:
Your online gallery is delivered within approximately 1 to 4 weeks
Images are selected directly from the gallery
Upgrade options are available after viewing your images
This process allows families to choose exactly what they love once they see the full story.
Can Newborn Photos Be Part of a Longer Plan?
Yes, and many families choose this option.
Newborn photos are often the beginning of a larger story that includes sitter milestones and first birthdays. Planning ahead through options like the First Year Collective allows for continuity, priority scheduling, and added value across the year.
