Family Photo Locations in Nassau County

I grew up in Nassau County and have lived here most of my life; my husband and I bought our first house together in 2022 in Manhasset and the area is one of my favorite places to share with others. My studio is located in Manhasset and so Nassau County continues to be home for me and my family - and likely will be for many years.

For those of you who are newer to our area, or for those of you who are looking for a photo session close to home, here are some beautiful locations that offer diverse landscapes, backdrops, and aesthetics to make your photo session your own!

When working with a professional photographer, they will be able to handle all the permitting and logistics of the session for you. In fact, when you book with me, I send a personalized style guide based on the location I've scouted for you so that you can stand out amongst the landscape (think jeans and white shirts for beach but floral dresses for a lawn session). This is sent to you in advance to help you maximize your closet and not incur huge costs on top of your photography session. After all, this is supposed to be fun!

  1. Old Westbury Gardens: This 200-acre estate features formal gardens, landscaped grounds, and a mansion. It's a popular spot for photography, especially during the spring when the flowers are in bloom.

  2. Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park: This park has over 400 acres of formal gardens, greenhouses, and walking trails. There are many great spots for family photos, including the Italian Garden, the Rose Garden, and the Coe Hall Mansion.

  3. Eisenhower Park: This large park has plenty of open spaces, lakes, and walking paths that are perfect for family photos. The park also has a carousel and a mini-golf course, which can make for fun photo opportunities.

  4. Jones Beach State Park: This beachfront park has miles of sandy beaches, dunes, and ocean views. It's a popular spot for family photos, especially during the summer months.

  5. Hempstead Lake State Park: This park has several lakes, a large picnic area, and scenic walking trails. It's a great spot for outdoor family photos, especially in the fall when the leaves change color.

  6. Sands Point Preserve: This 216-acre estate has a castle, formal gardens, wooded trails, and a beachfront. It's a beautiful spot for family photos, especially during the spring and summer when the flowers are in bloom. This one is close to home and I have SO MANY families request this location for their holiday cards - but it shows beautifully at all times of the year!

There are a million more places to choose from. Once we talk, I'll go scout some specific locations for what you're looking for and the vibe that we want to achieve...and then I'll give you my recommendations based on this. As silly as it may sound, an open park close to your home can work just as well as any of these places above. It's about getting creative and allowing your kids and yourself to have a great time!

Now that you know some of the bigger locations in Nassau County, why not let me show you some less well-known locations? I'd love to spend time with you and your family!
